Students with Disabilities Policy

Purpose

This policy ensures that students with disabilities have equal access to the programs, services, and activities at Arizona Holistic Institute of Healing Arts in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, and other applicable laws.

Scope

This policy applies to all students with disabilities enrolled at Arizona Holistic Institute of Healing Arts.

Definitions

  1. Disability: A physical or mental impairment that substantially limits one or more major life activities, as defined by the ADA.

  2. Reasonable Accommodations: Modifications or adjustments to the environment, curriculum, or services that enable students with disabilities to participate fully in academic and extracurricular programs.

Policy Statement

Arizona Holistic Institute of Healing Arts is committed to providing an inclusive and supportive environment for students with disabilities. The institution will:

  1. Provide Equal Access: Ensure that all facilities, programs, and services are accessible to students with disabilities.

  2. Offer Accommodations: Provide reasonable accommodations to ensure students can fully engage in their education, without altering essential academic standards.

  3. Promote Inclusion: Foster a community that respects and supports diversity, including disability.

Process for Requesting Accommodations

  1. Requesting Accommodations: Students must submit the Request for Accommodation and provide appropriate documentation of their disability. Documentation should include evidence of the disability and its impact on the student’s ability to engage in academic activities. Documentation may include a physician’s diagnosis of the student’s disability, an IEP from the student’s high school (if applicable), and other relevant records such as 504 plans or academic assessments that provide insight into the student’s needs.

  2. Interactive Process: Once documentation is reviewed, students will engage in an interactive process with the Director or designee to determine appropriate accommodations.

  3. Implementation: Approved accommodations will be communicated to instructors and relevant staff as necessary, maintaining confidentiality.

Examples of Reasonable Accommodations

  • Extended time on exams and assignments.

  • Flexible attendance policies when disability-related absences occur.

  • Test-taking in a quiet place.
